MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy is a specialized form of physical therapy delivered with the hands rather than devices or machines. It involves skilled, hands-on techniques used by physical therapists to evaluate and treat soft tissues (muscles, fascia, ligaments) and joint structures. The goal is to decrease pain, improve range of motion, reduce inflammation, and enhance overall mobility and function.

At Repsher Physical Therapy, our therapists are committed to ongoing learning and stay up to date with the latest advancements in manual therapy through continuing education courses. This allows us to continually refine our skills and incorporate new, evidence-based techniques into your treatment for the best possible outcomes.

Common Manual Therapy Techniques We Utilize:

  • Joint mobilization – gentle, controlled movements of joints to improve mobility and reduce stiffness.

  • Joint manipulation – quick, high-velocity thrusts often used to restore proper joint mechanics.

  • Soft tissue mobilization – targeted massage techniques that release muscle tension and adhesions.

  • Myofascial release – slow, sustained pressure on tight fascia to relieve restrictions.

  • Muscle energy techniques (METs) – uses a patient’s own muscle contractions to improve mobility and alignment.

  • Trigger point therapy – direct pressure on tight knots in muscles to reduce referred pain and tension.

Manual therapy is often used in conjunction with therapeutic exercise and movement re-training as part of a comprehensive physical therapy plan.
